Anxiety & Panic

ANXIETY AND PANIC

We have all experienced anxiety or even panic. In fact, it is normal to feel apprehensive when faced with a new experience.  Your mind and body are keeping you safe.

When anxiety is severe it can disrupt your day-to-day life.  It can prevent us from going out or doing the things we really want to do.

We can learn to reduce anxiety and consequently stop the panic.  It is possible to teach our minds to deal with things in a calmer more confident way.

CAUSES OF ANXIETY AND PANIC?

Anxiety occurs when we have catastrophic negative thoughts.   This is known as fight or flight and involves blood being diverted to our muscles.  Also, our heart will beat faster, and breathing increases and we focus on the danger.  Once the danger goes, then our bodies and minds should go back to calm.

Every thought we have creates a chemical reaction.  But we all have control over our thoughts.  Hence we can stop panic.  We just need to learn how to do this.

SOCIAL ANXIETY DISORDER AND AGORAPHOBIA

According to research, social anxiety (also known as social phobia) is the third most common psychiatric disorder after depression and alcoholism. Fear of being around other people, having to interact with them and being judged negatively are signs of this. Agoraphobia (the fear of open spaces, crowds, public places and/or travelling alone) is another severe form of anxiety.  All, fortunately, are treatable.

TREATMENT FOR ANXIETY AND PANIC

It is possible to recover from chronic anxiety.  EMDR and hypnotherapy can teach the mind and consequently the body to return to a place of safety and calm.  Hypnosis can help the client to think more positively when exposed to triggers.    Cognitive behavioral therapy is ideally taught in the state of hypnosis.  This is because you are teaching the learning mind (subconscious) directly.
